We set out shortly before 9am in the dinghy to motor up to Fort Ticonderoga, about a 3 mile trip up the Lake. The wind was fairly significant but was at our back so no issues. Very few boats out on a wide, deep lake–very relaxing cruising, even though it was a bit cool.
When we arrived at the boat ramp tie-up we found the Fort entrance right around the corner. However, the walk from the entrance gate to the main building where the tour began in less than 1/2 hr., was about 1.5 miles away. So, we hitch-hiked the next car coming in, a truck with children in the back seat which meant we road in the back bed, another first in my life!
We made it to the tour on time, and it was more interesting than I had anticipated. In addition to the Fort’s place in Revolutionary War history it was quite significant before that in the battles between the French/Indians & British and for the control of Canada. I bought another historical fiction book in the gift shop to learn more.
It was raining and the wind was in our faces on the dinghy ride back to Irish Eyes. the weather made the ride more of an adventure.

Ha great pic of dad in the back of the pickup truck
