Restful Days

Friday morning continued to rain, rather significantly, so we stayed on the mooring until noon and then headed out of Willsboro Bay and across Lake Champlain to Burlington. Not pleasant weather, but not frightful. The Burlington Harbor Marina is just two years old and quite beautiful. The Marina is right in the center of the city, very nice & stable floating docks, individual shower & bathrooms.

Katie & Brian went up to RiRa Irish Pub to get some late lunch and watch the Euro Cup, Belgium vs. Italy. We joined them half way through. It was decent food and an interesting afternoon as we do not generally watch soccer. We walked around the pedestrian thoroughfare-Church Street- and of course got ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s.

On Saturday Jim and I rode bikes 10 miles up & back on the Burlington Greenway. We passed a huge and active skate park, hiking trails, exercise stations, a beach and finally the Winooski River. We would have liked to continue but thought we might tire out before we got back if we kept going. Our small, collapsible bikes are not as comfortable as regular size ones.

The four of us went to the Vermont Hotel, Junipers, for dinner, it was very good. Then back to the marina for our ringside seats for the fireworks. Might have been our best fireworks display ever.

On Sunday Jim and I rode the Greenway again, but this time to the south. It was not as scenic as the northern route but still a great way to see the area. The city is very young, it has to 2 colleges here, and “Bernie’s” mindset is evident.

We have met very friendly people here at the marina including a man who runs the Tour de Somerville- small world! Finally the rain clouds lifted away and we had a beautiful sunset.
