Fun Days In Port

We were having that overcast, rainy weather that was predicted. On a boat you spend so much time outdoors that you are somewhat grateful for the excuse to spend some time indoors. We tackled budgets, writing, phone calls, cleaning.

work day

We rode bikes on the Burlington Greenway again, what a treat! and happened upon the neighborhood where childhood friends of Jim’s family used to live. They are no longer there, but Jim’s recall of the house on the corner with a dead end and a fence where they cut into the woods was remarkable.

We were fortunate to get a dinner reservation at Hen of the Wood- apparently one of Vermont’s award winning restaurants. It was excellent. For breakfast we visited Skinny Pancake,

Their breakfast sandwiches were very good, but they are on a mission to change the world with crepes???? Hmmm.

We rode bikes about 10 miles round trip to the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum. Ethan Allen was one of the original Green Mountain Boys, Vermont’s militia before there actually was a Vermont. New York and New Hampshire fought over who the land belonged to until Vermont became an independent state in 1791. Ethan Allen is credited with winning Fort Ticonderoga back from the British. Benedict Arnold was also with him, the Fort was taken without a shot. It surprised me that he is a name known from history (or is it because of a furniture store?) and yet his contribution was not particularly notable. Our tour guide was quite entertaining.

We ended the day watching some TV- our first in over three weeks!

Saturday was the most glorious day we have seen in months, upper 70’s with blue sunny skies. We took the dinghy out for a good ride where the Captain caught several perch, all of which he threw back. Later in the afternoon we had family visit, Dan & Marylou, while on their way up to Smugglers Notch with some of their kids & grandkids. The marina next to ours was hosting some kind of fundraiser and had bands playing all day. We enjoyed it for a few hours but were mighty glad when we finally got the quiet back.

  1. Amazing that friends “popped in” to visit. Breakfast looks good but the rock climbers look rather precarious!

  2. Your photos are beautiful!!! I love the history lessons, too. The marina is quiet without you two. Not that you were loud, but you were there for cocktails and dinner 😄 so you’re missed. Stay safe and keep enjoying your adventure!!!
