We launched Irish Eyes on Thursday June 8th. It had been in ‘dry- dock’ since August of 2021 in Plattsburgh, NY. That was when we ended the first stage of ‘The Great Loop’. We had cruised from our home port of Bay Head NJ up the Hudson River and spent the summer on Lake Champlain,ContinueContinue reading “Launch Day 2023”

2021 –Home Sweet Home
Today we drove home. Yes, a few days early, but we were ready. The impacts of Covid continued as we were unable to find a rental car – any size, any location, any number of days. It seems inventory is very low and so each location wants to keep their cars and will not doContinueContinue reading “2021 –Home Sweet Home”
Finally Summer
We have had a good amount of cool and rainy weather this season but we are now having some classic sunny, swimming summer days. The ‘grands’ have gotten so confident in their kayaking/paddle boarding skills that they are launching and tying up by themselves. So impressive! They also just had fun splashing around and eatingContinueContinue reading “Finally Summer”
Malletts Bay, Family Time
Malletts Bay is also on the Inland Sea which I posted a map of last time. We are staying on the most inland part of Malletts Bay, and still it is huge. We have seen more boats here than any other place we have been on the Lake. the entrance to this bay appeared tooContinueContinue reading “Malletts Bay, Family Time”
A Little More Rustic
After dropping our friends off back in Burlington Irish Eyes cruised up to Burton Island State Park. Lake Champlain is largely considered in three sections- the Main Lake, South Lake and the Restricted Arm. The Restricted Arm consists of Missisquoi Bay, the Inland Sea and Mallet’s Bay. Burton Island is in the Inland Sea. BurtonContinueContinue reading “A Little More Rustic”
Summer Cruising
I have been slower in my posting because the days have been slower, more relaxing. Those first two weeks every other moment was filled with eventful moments. I think putting that drama in writing was a bit cathartic. Good to have it behind me. Burlington Church Street pedestrian thoroughfare This past Sunday the 11th weContinueContinue reading “Summer Cruising”
Fun Days In Port
We were having that overcast, rainy weather that was predicted. On a boat you spend so much time outdoors that you are somewhat grateful for the excuse to spend some time indoors. We tackled budgets, writing, phone calls, cleaning. work day We rode bikes on the Burlington Greenway again, what a treat! and happened uponContinueContinue reading “Fun Days In Port”
Wilderness Boating
On Monday morning we did a few boating chores including filling up with fuel and emptying the septic tank. We can hold 200 gallons of diesel fuel in each of the two tanks, one each for port and starboard. (The septic tank holds 55 gallons). Makes filling up the car tank seem like nothing. WeContinueContinue reading “Wilderness Boating”
Restful Days
Friday morning continued to rain, rather significantly, so we stayed on the mooring until noon and then headed out of Willsboro Bay and across Lake Champlain to Burlington. Not pleasant weather, but not frightful. The Burlington Harbor Marina is just two years old and quite beautiful. The Marina is right in the center of theContinueContinue reading “Restful Days”
Here dinghy, dinghy…
Jim and I woke up around 6a while here on anchor. Jim says he is going to dink in to shore to use the bath house facilities while Katie and Brian are still sleeping. He heads out as I stay in bed looking at email. A minute later he comes back in wild eyed, theContinueContinue reading “Here dinghy, dinghy…”
